SolarWorld®'s
complaint to U.S. trade
authorities could result
in a dramatic increase
in solar panel prices
and may even harm the
U.S. solar industry and
may cost additional U.S.
job losses downstream of
manufacturing in the
sales, design and
installation sectors.
On Dec. 2
the U.S. International Trade Commission
found a "reasonable indication that a
U.S. industry is materially injured" by
solar panels imports from China, and
took first steps toward imposing tariffs
to help level the playing field.
If the proposed tariff is implemented,
all Chinese made inventory that was
brought into the U.S. less than 90 days
prior to the proposed tariff
announcement will be subject to a tariff
which will not only impact Chinese made
solar panels but will probably also have
a negative impact on U.S. made product
as well.
